Reporting back- 3rd March 2014
Yesterday we were delighted to present a second salon for Dover Arts Development, in the Studio Spaces on Astley Avenue. Here are pictures, words and music from the evening. (In preparation)
My mother doesn’t like orchids
She loves yellow tulips – my grandmother did too
My great-grandmother fancied forget-me-nots
I like yellow and blue
I love orchids
Fanciful shapes
Insects and butterflies
Drink the air
Old-time courtships
A man I know loves green
The girl wears turquoise and pinks
Another always dresses black
Green as the grass for a Hunter
White as flour for the Baker
Blue as the sea for a Sailor
Red as blood for the Soldier
Death came black clad
– to some, to all
The painter wears all the colours of the rainbow
I love Orchids
And Rainbows
(Malene Skaerved)

Peter Sheppard Skaerved’s score for the Biber ‘Passacaglia’, with Malene’s super-concentrated story threaded into the bare statements pf the bass line
Biber-Schutzengel, als Begleiter des Menschen
…a heroine left her childhood home. Met monsters, thieves and cheats. Faced death, disaster and disappointment. Won horses, fine dresses and kisses. THE END

Nigel Clarke – Loulan (2003)Peter Sheppard Skaerved (violin)
I want to keep going
into the distance, searching, sunset
pinks, gold, magic, worship
a white horse, Prince Charming
walking, longing, dreaming
looking for happy ever after
and love
Mother, what was it like when you were little?
my purple-plum tree, a tom-cat
the black hen that laid two-yolk eggs,
a suitcase filled with moth eaten dresses,
mowing the lawn, washing the car,
stolen cigarettes, a kiss behind the door,
a steep climb home from the sea
setting sun over rolling hills
and love
I come home
to a sunset behind black trees in the park
to a smile and a boy in the doorway
dirty dishes and a full dishwasher
a lit candle and a cup of tea
three pairs of worn socks
a kiss, a soft bed, a warm embrace
and love

Dover Arts development’s second music, poetry and visual art Salon
‘Keep Going’
A Salon, presented by Peter Sheppard Skærved – Violin & Malene Skærved – poet in response to ‘Thread, Paper, Cloth’ an artist’s collaboration between Clare Smith and Rosie James
Many of you will know Peter and Malene from the first salon and/or the Transit: Pulp and Rags concert last October. We are delighted that they are now returning to Dover, bringing new music and writing woven by common skeins of wandering, storytelling and walking.

Malene and Peter at work in 2012, on a collaboration bringing together Biber and Storytelling at Wiltons Music Hall
This concert offers a rare opportunity to witness a performance of Philip Glass’s genre-busting early work, ‘Strung Out’, written shortly after his return from India in 1963; a work intended for a gallery, for walking violinist.
